Development Officer assaulted after distributing relief packages to isolated areas

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police is investigating an assault of a Development Officer in Hedigama, Piliyandala.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said a female Development Officer attached to the Kesbewa Divisional Secretariat was assaulted by a motorcyclist on Sunday (16) evening.

"A special police team was deployed to conduct investigations and the development officer-in-charge of the Delthara (West) Grama Niladhara Division and was involved in providing the Rs. 5000/- relief packages to the people living in the area which is currently placed in isolation," said the Police Spokesperson.

She was assaulted following the completion of the distribution of the packages and returning to her residence, he added.

"Sri Lanka Police will take stern action against the perpetrator," said DIG Ajith Rohana.

Further, on the 02nd of December 2020, a person spat on the face of a Public Health Inspector in Atalugama, Bandaragama.

He was arrested and charged and was sentenced to 06 six years of rigorous imprisonment for committing the offense.
