177 nabbed for not wearing face masks; highest number of arrests in a day

Colombo (News 1st); 177 people were arrested by Sri Lanka Police on Sunday (25) for failing to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.

This is the highest number of arrests made in a single day for the failure to wear face masks and maintain social distancing. Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said the arrested individuals are charged under the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance and the Penal Code of Sri Lanka. 134 people were arrested in the Western Province and 39 of them were arrested from Colombo City, 45 of them were arrested from the Gampaha District and 50 were arrested from the Kalutara District.
