DNA confirms 'Keselwatte Dinuka's identity; body to be buried today

Colombo (News 1st); DNA tests have confirmed that the body flown to Sri Lanka from Dubai on the 18th of March is of Rajapaksa Arachchige Dinuka Madushan alias Keselwatte Dinuka.

Sri Lanka Police said investigations carried out based on 'Keselwatte Dinuka's finger-prints and samples from his mother confirmed the identity of the deceased. Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to News 1st said on the 18th of March a body was sent to Sri Lanka from Dubai and the name of the deceased was mentioned as Rajapaksa Kasun Maduranga. However, Sri Lanka Police received information on the body and believed it belongs to notorious criminal 'Keselwatte Dinuka', said the Police Spokesperson adding Airport Police obtained a court order for the body to be placed at the Negombo Hospital morgue under the investigations are over. He said 'Keselwatte Dinuka' was connected to multiple crimes from 2001 to 2012 and the body was flown to Sri Lanka using a fake name. The cause of death is to be revealed by the Judicial Medical Officer after samples are analyzed by the Government Analyst's Department, said the Police Spokesperson. The court ordered for the body to be released to the late criminals' wife and the burial will take place on Wednesday (24) according to the COVID-19 regulations.
