Two arrested with over 45 kg of Heroin in Horana

COLOMBO (News 1st): Two suspects were arrested along with 45 kg of Heroin after inspecting a van in Horana on Thursday morning (Feb. 25), Sri Lanka Police said. The arrests were made during a special raid carried out by the Panadura Anti-Vice Narcotic Striking Unit in Horana, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st. According to DIG Ajith Rohana, during the inspection of the van, 45 kilograms and 376 grams of Heroin was recovered. The driver of the vehicle who was in uniform has been identified as a Sri Lanka Army officer, while the second suspect is an ex-military personnel, the Deputy Police Chief said. "Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of Sri Lanka Army General Shavendra Silva informed that Sri Lanka Army will take stern action against the soldier who was involved in the drug racket under the military law," DIG Ajith Rohana noted. Furthermore, the Police Narcotics Bureau will take legal action against the suspects under the provisions of the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.
