New member appointed to Special Presidential Commission

COLOMBO (News1st): Appeal Court judge Sobhitha Rajakaruna has been appointed to the Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Political victimization that was appointed recently. The latest appointment had been confirmed in a gazette notification published by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Sobhitha Rajakaruna has been appointed to the Special Presidential Commission to fill in the void created following the resignation of Ratnapriya Gurusinghe. The Special Commission was appointed by the President to implement the recommendations and decisions made by the Presidential Commission that probe incidents of political victimization under the previous Government. Supreme Court judge Khema Kumudini Wickremasinghe, is another member of the commission that is chaired by Supreme Court judge Priyantha Jayawardena. The report of the Presidential Commission appointed to investigate political victimization between the 08th of January 2015 and 16th of November 2019 was presented to the Cabinet after being submitted to the President. During the cabinet meeting, it was suggested that a Special Presidential Commission should be appointed to develop a proper mechanism to implement the recommendations of the report.
