Colombo (News 1st); Minister Wimal Weerawansa says if it was wrongful to be part of the movement to ensure the win of Mahinda Rajapaksa following the 2015 Presidential Election defeat, then he would apologize to the nation. Weerawansa was responding to a demand made by SLPP General Secretary Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam who urged Weerawansa to apologize to the nation for his comments on the SLPP leadership. Wimal Weerawansa also noted, if it was wrong to work towards the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Election, then it should a matter to apologize to the people. Responding to a question posed by reporters, Weerawansa said he commented on the SLPP leadership on the basis that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa must hold a high position in the party. It does not mean Mahinda Rajapaksa must be removed from a leadership position, said Weerawansa adding there would be cooperation among political forces if President Gotabaya Rajapaksa also held a high position in the SLPP while Mahinda Rajapaksa holds the leadership position. He said if a person from one party cannot comment on another party, it would mean restrictions have been imposed on freedom of speech, enshrined in the constitution. If two doctors attached to the National Freedom Front or any other person from the party is linked to a foreign intelligence agency, such allegations need to be investigated, said Weerawansa. He went on to note a statement must be recorded from the person who made such an allegation. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9dPeWABaS4[/embed]
