Colombo (News 1st); Indictments were filed against Ex-Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake & the beneficial owner of Perpetual Treasuries Limited Arjun Aloysius at the Colombo High Court on Friday (05).
After the indictments were filed the Colombo High Court Judge ordered for the accused to be released on a cash bail of Rs. 500,000 each and two personal bails for each accused amount to Rs. 05 Million each. The Colombo High Court Judge imposed several conditions when granting bail including an overseas travel ban until the conclusion of the trial. The matter will be called up again on the 02nd of March 2021. The Bribery Commission alleges the former Minister had solicited a bribe while serving as a public servant from February 12, 2016, to September 30, 2016, by residing at an apartment of Monarch Housing complex. The indictment alleges that Arjun Aloysius has paid Rs. 11.68 million for the house by checks from Walt & Row Associates (Pvt.) Ltd. of which Aloysius was a director and Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. He was named as the second accused in the case, and charged under Section 19 (c) of the Bribery Act for aiding and abetting the process. A total of six indictments have been filed against the two accused by the Bribery Commission.
