COLOMBO (News 1st): The Foundation for Peoples' Rights Protection has requested the government to set a maximum retail price for raw turmeric, which is used as an antiseptic since ancient times.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the value, as well as the demand for Turmeric, has risen drastically, whereas a better price has been created in the market for turmeric.
Close to 1370 hectares of Turmeric has been cultivated throughout the island, and an expected harvest of 25,000 metric tons of raw Turmeric is expected this year.
Of the total harvest, plans are underway to use 5000 metric tons of turmeric as seeds for re-cultivation.
