COLOMBO (News 1st): The Director-General of Health Services confirmed that two COVID-19 deaths were reported in the country on Friday (Jan. 22), raising Sri Lanka's COVID-19 death toll to 278, the Department of Government Information said.
The details of the deceased are as follows:
01. A 82-year-old male from Colombo 08. He was diagnosed as infected with COVID and transferred from a private hospital in Colombo to Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) where he passed away on 22nd January. The cause of death is mentioned as COVID pneumonia.
02. A 51-year-old female from Homagama. She was diagnosed as infected with COVID and transferred from Colombo General Hospital to Homagama Base Hospital where she passed away on 22nd January. The cause of death is mentioned as COVID pneumonia, blood poisoning, and kidney dysfunction.
Another 787 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed on Friday (Jan. 22); thereby, raising the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 56,863.
There are 7968 active COVID-19 patients receiving treatment, while 48,617 have recovered, the latest statistics released by the Epidemiology Unit at the Ministry of Health showed.
