COLOMBO (News 1st): "There is a cloud of uncertainty over the tender called for the purchase of coal at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant," opposition MP Nalin Bandara said in Parliament on Tuesday (19th Jan)
"A cabinet paper was put forward yesterday to purchase 300,000 tonnes of coal for USD 96. As of now, several other tenders have been cancelled. Those cancelled tenders have been called for USD 56 to purchase 1 tonne of coal," MP Nalin Bandara charged.
He added that Sri Lanka will suffer a total loss of USD 1.7 billion due to this.
"When you multiply 300,000 by USD 30, it comes up to about a loss of USD 1.7 billion. Now we can see the direction this Government is heading," the opposition MP said.
