Colombo (News 1st); The Justice Ministry is to establish Children Friendly Courts in selected areas of the country, for children who are victims of crimes or who are witnesses to crimes, to come forward and reveal details, if they decide to do so. Legal Adviser to the Justice Minister U.R. de Silva PC speaking to News 1st said these establishments will not be physical courts but will adopt the court proceedings of recording evidence in-camera (behind closed doors). The cross-examination will also take place in-camera at a separate location away from the eyes of the perpetrator or accused, said De Silva PC. He said these courthouses will be set up in Colombo, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Ampara.
