COLOMBO (News1st): President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has assigned his chief advisor with the duty of coordinating the process of importing vaccines against COVID-19, his office said Tuesday.
Chief advisor Lalith Weeratunga has been instructed to hold talks with local and foreign health officials to bring down the vaccines after a thorough study, the president's office said in a statement.
"Target groups for the vaccine would be determined based on the requirement and priority," the statement noted.
It added that a decision has been reached to collect data on high-risk groups and areas for the virus including estates, apartment complexes, and dormitories.
The decision had been made during the daily meeting of the COVID-19 committee at the presidential secretariat.
