COLOMBO (News 1st): Following the tragic road accident involving a motor-cycle in Egodauyana, Moratuwa on Friday (Dec. 04), which claimed the lives of four including two children, Sri Lanka Police have initiated a special operation to arrest riders who defy road rules and regulations in the night time, Police said on Thursday (Dec. 09).
Thereby, 26 high-performance motorcycles were seized by Mirihana Police on Sunday (Dec. 06).
"The seized motorcycles were examined by Motor Traffic examiners on Tuesday (Dec. 08) at the Mirihana Police premises," Police Spokesperson, DIG Ajith Rohana said on Wednesday (Dec. 09).
According to the examination report, the chassis numbers of 10 motorcycles were changed.
"We believe that those motorcycles have been locally assembled and these vehicles will be sent to the Government Analyst's Department for further clarification. Accordingly, we will file charges against the riders in due course," the Deputy Police Chief further noted.
Further investigations are conducted by Mirihana Police.
The Deputy Police Chief reiterated that Traffic Police are conducting special operations in the night time to apprehend street racing riders.
