Colombo (News 1st); The National Dangerous Drugs Control Board will conduct a survey with regard to the prisoners addicted to using drugs.
Chairman of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board Dr. Laknath Welagedara speaking to News 1st said the decision was made considering the recent incidents which took place across prisons in Sri Lanka including the Mahara Prison Riot.
Sri Lanka Police is also to assist in the process, he said.
Dr. Laknath Welagedara said the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board and the Department of Prisons will carry out tests across all prisons to determine the addiction rate among prisoners.
He said the drug addicts will be directed to rehabilitation inside prisons as well as rehab centers.
