'Podi Lassie' named as suspect in death threat case; remanded until Sept. 25th

Colombo (News 1st);  Underworld gangster Janith Madushanka alias 'Podi Lassie' was named as the second suspect in the case filed over the incident where open death threats were made at the Boossa High-Security Prison against the President, Defence Secretary and Senior Ranked officers of the Department of Prisons.

The Criminal Investigations Department requested Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela to name 'Podi Lassie' as a suspect in the case.

ASP of the Criminal Investigations Department Merrill Ranjan Lamahewa filed a motion on Thursday (17) to produce the suspect in court.

The Chief Magistrate granted the CID permission to visit the Boossa High-Security Prison and record a statement from 'Podi Lassie' who was remanded until the 25th of September.

On Thursday (17) 'Podi Lassie' was escorted to the Galle Chief Magistrate's Court amidst a tight security detail of Police Officers and Police Special Task Force personnel.

Security was tightened in and around the Galle Court Complex on Thursday (17) as well.

The Criminal Investigations Department also informed the court, Dharmakeerthige Tharaka Perera Wijesekera alias 'Kosgoda Tharaka' is also involved in the incident of making death threats.

'Podi Lassie' was also produced at the Balapitiya Magistrate's Court on Thursday (17) for a heroin possession case.

Balapitiya Chief Magistrate Sampath U. Gamage ordered bail for the suspect, however, there was no one present in court to post bail for the suspect.

'Podi Lassie' was escorted to the Balapitiya Magistrate's Court amidst a tight security detail of Prison Officers and Police Special Task Force personnel.

'Podi Lassie' was arrested by police after a suspect who was arrested in Batapola in 2017 for the possession of 03 grams of heroin, during interrogation mentioned the name of 'Podi Lassie'.
