COLOMBO (News 1st): The Task Force on Sri Lanka’s Education Affairs has recommended that the number of national schools in the country be increased to 1000.
"Currently there are 345 national schools across the island, and in certain divisional secretariat there are no national schools at all," Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawarathne - Member of the Task Force said on Thursday (July 30).
Speaking to News 1st, Dr. Nawarathne said, at least one national school should be established at each divisional secretariat to uplift the education system in the country.
"Instead of a system where students are being taught everything by teachers, a self-learning system under the supervision of teachers, would be more practical," He further noted.
The Task Force on Sri Lanka’s Education Affairs was appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa recently and it has prepared a proposal containing recommendations on reviving the education in Sri Lanka.
