Indictments filed against Patali regarding 2016 Rajagiriya accident

Colombo (News 1st); The Attorney General filed an indictment with the Colombo High Court against Ex-Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka for causing grievous injury to a person by rash & negligent driving on the 28th of February 2016.

The Attorney General filed a second Indictment with the Colombo High Court against former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, ASP Sudath Asmadala & Dilum Thusitha Kumara for Conspiring & fabricating false evidence as well as giving false information to screen an offender.

According to State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General the second indictment contains 16 charges and the main charge is relating to conspiring and fabricating false evidence to claim it was Dilum Thusitha Kumara who was driving the vehicle which caused an accident.

Another charge relates to conspiring to conceal evidence in order to protect Ex-Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka from legal punishment.

ASP Sudath Asmadala is charged with producing a false report to the Magistrate's Court in order to protect Ex-Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka from legal punishment.

Dilum Thusitha Kumara is charged with giving false information to court for saying he was behind the wheel at the time of the 2016 accident while knowing it was in-fact Patali Champika Ranawaka who was driving the SUV.
