Majority of over 700 confirmed COVID-19 cases among Sri Lanka Navy personnel: Army Commander

COLOMBO (News 1st): As of Friday (May 29), Sri Lanka has recorded 1,530 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with over 700 infected Sri Lanka Navy personnel, more than 400 foreign returnees and 416 among the society. "The last case reported from the society was on the 30th of April," told Lieutenant General, Shavendra Silva - Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander, to News 1st on Friday morning. According to Army Commander - Lieutenant General, Shavendra Silva, only 406 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed within the society, since COVID-19 pandemic began to spread in the country. "So far from Sri Lanka Navy, we have found 708 COVID-19 cases," said Lieutenant General, Shavendra Silva. The Army Commander went on to note that, a total of 416 Sri Lankans who returned to the island via repatriation flights tested positive for the virus. Sri Lanka registered its highest daily tally of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, as 150 people tested positive for the virus in a single day.
