Colombo (News 1st) - The Police noted that legal action would be instituted against those who fail to comply with the quarantine process, that has been put in place to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.
Superintendent of Police Jaliya Senaratne speaking to the media noted that the quarantine process is being implemented under legal provisions and expressed hope that the public would comply with the procedures.
Senaratne noted that the quarantine process is being carried out under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance of 1987, he added that Clause 2 of the ordinance allows the subject minister to enact regulations.
The SP went onto state that anyone found guilty of violating quarantine procedures, in a court of law, could be jailed for 6 months and/or fined a fee between 10 and 2000 rupees.
