Two arrested over murder of police officer

Colombo (News 1st): Police said the suspects had met the police sergeant who was preparing to return home at around 11:00 pm yesterday (Feb 5). Police stated that the suspects had confessed the murder that had occurred after an argument had arisen with the sergeant. They further confessed that they had disposed of the body on the side of the road. The victim was 57-year-old T. Sivarsah of Purdue, Batticaloa who was attached to the Valachchenai police. Our correspondent states he was a father of three and was due to retire next month. He further stated Batticaloa Magistrate A.C.M. Rizwan had ordered the body to be sent to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital after the magisterial inquiry. Two suspects have been arrested in the Mullaa-muna area earlier this evening by the Vavunathivu Police in Batticaloa. The suspects were residents of the Vavunathivu area.
