512 prisoners receive pardons

Colombo (News 1st) - The Department of Prisons notes that 512 prisoners are due to receive their freedom today inline with the 72nd Independence day celebrations. Prisons Commissioner T.M.J.W. Tennakoon noted that the prisoners who will be granted a pardon are individuals who had been sentenced for short periods. Tennakoon added that the name list of prisoners was sent to the President for his approval.
