Colombo (News 1st) - The 19th amendment and 2/3rd majority in Parliament have once again come to the forefront of political debates with the expectation that a general election would be ehdl in the coming months.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena addressing an event today noted that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa should be given a 2/3rd majority in Parliament in order to bring about constitutional amendments. The Chairman of the SLFP noted that he received the support of Mahinda Rajapaksa when he was first elected in order to get several acts passed in Parliament.
However, the former President hoped that the current President would not have to face the same predicament that he had to suffer, having a PM from the UNP. He noted that the people should extend their fullest support to President Rajapaksa in order to ensure that he is able to pass necessary legislation.
