5000 vacancies for doctors in Sri Lanka

Colombo (News 1st): The Health Ministry says around 5000 doctors are required in order to continue an uninterrupted medical treatment service in the country. Additional Secretary of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health Dr. Sunil De Alwis said around 1350 doctors would receive clinical training this year, while Sri Lanka currently has around 20,000 doctors. Dr. Sunil De Alwis said the number of doctors stationed at key hospitals is above the required amount and that there is a serious issue in deploying doctors to rural hospitals operated by the Provincial Councils. The additional secretary went on to note that steps will be taken to ensure that every hospital.
