Colombo (News 1st): Presidential Candidate of the National People's Party Mahesh Senanayake convened a media briefing today (November 18). Speaking at the briefing he congratulated Gotabaya Rajapaksa on his victory at the Presidential election and noted that they would like to engage in discussions to support the policies in his election manifesto.
He added that they think that he will have the courage and strength to implement the policies included in his election manifesto. He thanked his fellow brothers and sisters who cast their vote for the light bulb and added that they are holding discussions on continuing to engage in politics with this victory that we secured and the trust that the people have placed in us. He said they will be contesting at the upcoming elections including the general election.
National Organizer of the party Senaka Sinhalage who was also present at the meeting noted that most of the policies that they presented to the general public were also included in the manifesto of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and that too is a victory that they secured. He said the National People's Party, the National People's Movement is with the general public and will move forward as a team until they accomplish the goals of the general public.
Journalist: You said that many of your policies were also included in the manifesto of Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Do you hope to join with them and work in the future?
Mahesh Senanayake: There are certain policies that are included, clearly we will support it. That does not mean that we are forming an alliance with them. We can clearly state that we are not a team that will hinder the implementation of their policies. If there is something good that can be accrued to the country we will be there. Also, we are not a group that can be bought for a price.
Journalist: Considering the position of the JVP today and your position what would you have to say?
Mahesh Senanayake: If the policies match and things are being done for the welfare of the country, we are willing to work together with any group from the Alternative, the JVP or any other party. We should hold discussions on these matters in the future. An agreement on these matters might be far away but we will be open to discuss these matters.
