COLOMBO(News 1st) - Educational plans and proposals of the National People's Power Movement saw its official launch in Colombo today(October 14).
Educational plans and proposals of the party were presented to Presidential Candidate, Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the event and university professors, lecturers and intellectuals attended the event.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake noted that that the economic crisis, crimes, poverty and the education system are intertwined with each other. He added that therefore a proper education system is necessary for the country.
He further added that the education system with the current institutional structure and the subjects need a fresh shakedown. He went on to note that most of the weight of the education today, is carried on the shoulders of the parents.
He shared that the policies they present are formed in a way that the burden of the child is undertaken by the state instead of imposing it on the parents.
Questions were raised as to what will be the take on private institutions when the National People's Power Movement comes into power.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake responded that their policies refrain from the earlier policies which dictated the shutting down of private institutions. He added that they intend to continue the private institutions via qualitative criteria and expanding the government institutions parallel to them.
He went on to note that today, students have to sign up with private education institutions because the government does not provide them with the opportunity.
