COLOMBO (News 1st):- Yet another Presidential Campaign Rally of the Presidential Candidate of the SLPP - Gotabaya Rajapaksa was held in Kadawatha today (October 13). The rally started with the participation of many party leaders, MPs, and intellectuals who support the SLPP and the rally was filled with party supporters. Thereafter, Leader of the SLPP, Mahinda Rajapaksa also attended the rally. Addressing the people gathered, the SLPP Presidential candidate says,

"Our political culture should be changed to a better one. We have no intention of acting out of aggression, narrow ambitions or personal agendas. We have no intention of disgracing ourselves. Every party that has joined us, have done so, only because of our policies. I also have to say that the SLFP was a huge strength to us. We were able to increase our power up to 70% because they joined us. We welcome them dearly. The SLFP is the party that was started by S.W.R.D Banadaranayake and our father D.A. Rajapaksa. It is from the SLFP that Mahinda Rajapaksa became President twice."

Also speaking to the people Mahinda Rajapaksa said;

"The state of the whole country was depicted by the result in Elpitiya. It increased up 70% after the two parties merged. Actually there is nothing to be merged, all parties are parties, formed by us. Both parties were formed by us. It was during my time that I won 127 seats for the SLFP in Parliament. No one else could achieve that. That is how we formed strong governments. These two parties are the same. That is the ancestral home, so are we. "

Meanwhile, the Senior Vice Chairman of the SLFP, Nimal Siripala said that as the SLFP they reached a decision while many opposed the fact that they were clinging onto the symbol. He continued to say that it was he who stood firm and said that assisting to ensure the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa is a political and a national need of this generation. He further said that what they are trying to do is not make one person emerge victorious since he has presented wider policies and a series of programs. Treasurer of the SLFP, Lasantha Alagiyawanna assures the party supporters to not be afraid since they will work together without any party differences.
