Colombo (News 1st): The Navy in coordination with the Sinnakudiirippu Police conducted a search in the general area of Sinnakudiirippu, Kalpitiya and apprehended a person with 658 conch shells yesterday (October 1).
The Northwestern Naval Command and the Sinnakudiirippu Police conducted this raid in the general area of Sinnakudiirippu and held the 43-year-old suspect who is a resident of the same area. The accused along with the seized conch shells was handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries of Puttalam for onward investigation.
According to the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act the possession, buying, displaying with the intention of selling, transporting or exporting of conch shells which are less than 70 mm in diameter has been banned.
