Abiman Waram: Deadlines for application extended

Colombo (News 1st): Children are the future of the country and it is our duty to help them achieve their dreams and goals. The Abiman Waram program was initiated by the Champion network together with Anchor to identify and groom talented Sri Lankan children who continue to dream despite numerous trials and tribulations. We have heard of many stories, where children are deprived of their right to education because of various socio-economic issues. The program intends to empower these youngsters who are facing difficulties in bringing out their potential. The Abiman Waram team traveled across the island from the 2^nd to the 13^th of July and distributed applications and created awareness regarding the program. During the 10 day period, the Abiman Waram team discovered many students who might have a bright future if they had the proper support. The program will award scholarships to 10 students aged between 12-18 under 10 categories. The categories are;

Education
Innovation
Leadership and Management
Entrepreneurship
Sports
Unique talents
Aesthetics
Media
Digital and ICT
Technical knowledge

During the initial round 250 students, 10 from each district, will be chosen by a panel comprising 50 experienced judges (5 for each category). Selections will begin with the conclusion of accepting applications. Accepting of applications which were to conclude on the 31st of July, has been extended till the 7th of August. It should be noted that the student can only apply for one of the 10 categories and not more. The 250 students who will be chosen, will undergo several face-to-face interviews with the judges of the respective category. Following the interviews, one student from each category will be selected and awarded a scholarship by Fonterra, by the end of September 2019. Children should be set free to what they love, we should extend a helping hand for them to realize their passion. With the right help and a good mind, everything is possible.
