Two traffic police officers attacked in Batticaloa

COLOMBO (News 1st): Two traffic police officers have been attacked and the revolver which was in their possession was also stolen in Puttur, Batticaloa this morning (July 04). Police said that 13 individuals have been questioned over the incident thus far. Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the incident occurred when the two police officers who recorded complaints on motorists driving without licenses, were returning to the police station when a motorcycle swerved into their path. A group of area residents tried to assault the policemen and the revolver of the policeman was grabbed by a person in the crowd. Both policemen have been admitted to the Batticaloa hospital due to injuries. The police have identified the people who carried out the attack and further investigations are being carried out into the matter under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police in Batticaloa.
