St. Anthony's Shrine, Kochchikade reopens following attacks

Colombo (News 1st): The St. Anthony's Shrine, Kochchikade which has been renovated following the 04/21 attacks reopened to the public today (June 12). Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith conducted a special service to reopen the church. Relatives of those who passed away as a result of the attacks, as well as individuals who sustained injuries, were present at the service. During the sermon Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said they have to foster a society which will aid those who are attempting to create an environment of peace and harmony in the country. He said they should pray to God, requesting this very fact and at this moment they would like to request the leaders of the political arena to carry out their duties truthfully and to provide an honest political leadership to the country. He requested them to not engage in wrong-doing, and punish those who do and build a country which upholds truth, justice and equality. The Archbishop said there are many in this country who live in grief and they fear that this country might not be able to rebuild. The Archbishop noted that many question the ability of the Sri Lankan leaders to guide this country towards a virtuous path. He prayed for the political leaders to attain the courage to serve the country selflessly and to shatter any doubts that the people hold.
