Cyclone 'FANI' moving away from Sri Lanka

Colombo (News 1st): Cyclone ‘FANI’ over west-central and southwest Bay of Bengal and to the northeast of Sri Lanka, is located about 670 km northeast of Trincomalee. The Meteorological Department noted that it is likely to move north-northeastwards moving away from the island towards the coast of Odisha in India. The Met department added that cloudy skies, strong winds, and showery conditions are expected to continue over the island and surrounding coastal areas. Strong winds up to 60 kmph can be expected over the island, particularly in Central hills, Northern, North-Central, Uva, and Southern provinces and in Puttalam, Trincomalee, and Batticaloa districts. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at times over Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Western, Uva, and North-western provinces. Heavy rainfall of about 100 mm can be expected at some places in the above provinces. The Met department requests the general public, naval and fishing communities to be attentive on future advisories.
