COLOMBO (News 1st) - Area residents of the Kalawewa reserve had reportedly been informed about a battle between two elephants in the reserve.
News 1st correspondent reported that one elephant had been killed following this struggle.
Local residents confirmed that the struggle had broken out between an elephant who roams near the Kalawewa and the largest elephant in the heard of the Kalawewa reserve. The peak of the battle ensued last night killing the largest elephant in the Kalawewa reserve heard.
Speaking to News 1st, D. Ramasinghe a wildlife official of the Galkiriyagama Wildlife Zone stated that investigations revealed the elephant had received over twenty stabbings from a tusk and that it could be confirmed that the wounds caused was undoubtedly the reason for the death of the elephant.
Elephants were seen gathering near the Kalawewa this morning in a gesture similar to that of paying last respects to the leader of the heard.
The body of the elephant was buried in the banks of the Kalawewa.
