COLOMBO (News 1st); A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 412 helicopter lifted off from Ratmalana Airport this morning, carrying vital contributions donated to the Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra Flood Relief initiative.
The relief consignment is headed to Maldeniya in Nuwara Eliya, one of the regions hardest hit by recent floods and landslides.
This marks the second consecutive day that an Air Aid Convoy has airlifted donations collected through the Sirasa Shakthi campaign to affected communities.
With road access crippled by landslides and flash floods, airlifting supplies has become a lifeline for thousands stranded in remote areas.
As weather conditions remain volatile, these missions are ensuring that food, and essentials reach those who need them most.
The Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra flood relief initiative launched a Special Mission on 1st December for the communities still inaccessible due to disaster conditions.
Essential supplies were airlifted to those stranded in hard-to-reach areas, for the first time.
Monday's special operation is carried out by the Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Air Force, the Indian Air Force, and the Disaster Management Center.
Support for this mission was extended by officers of the Indian Air Force, with the consignment transported aboard an Indian Air Force MI-17 helicopter.
On the same day, Sirasa Shakthi Sahana Yathra delivered another consignment of essential supplies from the Stein Studios Complex to the Ratmalana Air Force Base.
