Ministry of Rural Development Establishes Special Committee To Support Disaster-Affected Communities

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment has taken steps to establish a special committee to provide relief to people affected by the recent disaster. 

Minister Dr. Upali Pannilage said that a 10-member committee consisting of senior officials representing all institutions under the Ministry has been appointed for this purpose.

According to the Minister, funds have already been allocated from the Social Security Fund to deliver relief to affected communities, while arrangements are also underway to obtain assistance through the World Food Programme (WFP).

Meanwhile, the Ministry has begun compiling information on persons with disabilities who have been affected by the disaster.
