COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka is grappling with one of its worst natural disasters in recent years, as torrential rains and floods continue to wreak havoc across the island.
The latest situation report reveals a death toll of 153, with 191 individuals still missing
According to the Disaster Management Center, 774,724 people from 217,263 families have been affected nationwide.
Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, as 798 safety centers shelter 27,494 families (over 100,000 people) displaced by the disaster.
Gampaha tops the list with 197,144 affected individuals and 76 safety centers.
Puttalam reports 135,922 affected, with 59 shelters active.
Mannar faces severe flooding, impacting 79,946 people.
Colombo has 99,668 affected, while Badulla and Kandy report the highest fatalities—52 deaths each, with 42 missing in Badulla and 105 missing in Kandy.
