President Declares State Of Public Emergency In Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has declared a State of Public Emergency In Sri Lanka, effective from November 28, 2025.

The announcement, published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2464/30, invokes powers under the Public Security Ordinance (Act No. 8 of 1959) and subsequent amendments, granting the government authority to implement emergency regulations island-wide.

According to the Gazette, the declaration aims to:

Protect public safety and national stability during the prevailing crisis.


Enable rapid disaster response and coordination across all sectors.

This State of Public Emergency In Sri Lanka declaration comes as the south asian island battles one of its worst weather-related disasters in recent history, with widespread flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage affecting hundreds of thousands of people.
