COLOMBO (News 1st); SriLankan Airlines’ Airport and Ground Services, the sole ground handler at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), has rolled out its self-check-in service for customer airlines ahead of the winter travel season, which is expected to bring over 300,000 tourists in December alone.

The move follows the installation of 20 new self-check-in kiosks last month, bringing the total to 28, significantly improving airport efficiency and passenger convenience.

Since its launch in 2023, the facility has gained popularity, with 15% of SriLankan’s passengers opting for self-service over traditional counters.

The kiosks allow travelers to select seats, print boarding passes, and generate bag tags in minutes, reducing congestion at departure terminals.

On any given day, thousands of inbound, outbound and transit passengers pass through BIA, with SriLankan Airport and Ground Services serving as their primary touchpoint.

As these numbers continue to grow, the airline is fully geared to accommodate the anticipated surge in travellers during the winter season through digitalisation.
