Second Reading of 2026 Government Budget Passed in Parliament with 118 Votes In Favor

COLOMBO (News 1st); The second reading of the 2026 Budget was passed with a majority of 118 votes.

Accordingly, the number of votes received in favor of the Government Budget proposal 2026 was 160. 

42 votes were cast against proposal.

8 abstained from voting in the 2026 Government Budget proposal 

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake presented the 2026 Budget to Parliament on the 7th of November.

Six days were subsequently allocated for the Second Reading debate of the Budget.

The Committee Stage debate of the Budget will commence tomorrow, November 15th.

It will be held for 17 days until December 5th.

The vote for the Third Reading of the Budget will take place on December 5th at 6:00 PM.
