COLOMBO (News 1st); A hotel employee has been arrested by Colombo Fort Police after allegedly stealing foreign currency from a Dutch female tourist staying at a hotel in the Colombo Fort area.
The incident occurred on the evening of 11 November 2025, and the official complaint was lodged on 13 November. The tourist, who was sharing a special guest room with another woman, discovered that Dirhams and Euros worth approximately Rs. 330,000 had gone missing from her wallet.
Following a report filed through the Tourist Police, investigators arrested a 41-year-old suspect from Kandana, employed at the hotel.
During questioning, the suspect confessed to taking the money while the guests were out and transferring the stolen currency through a financial institution in Ja-Ela.
The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (14 November). Further investigations are underway.
