COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan police have uncovered a staggering 345 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) during a pre-dawn raid in Kirinda, marking one of the largest narcotics seizures in recent history.
Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the operation, including the alleged mastermind who reportedly orchestrated the smuggling via sea routes.
Police sources revealed that the consignment is believed to belong to a notorious drug trafficker known as Ran Malli, currently residing in Dubai.
Investigators suspect the narcotics were transported into the country by boat, though the vessel used for the operation has yet to be located.
The raid, carried out by officers from the Western Province North Crimes Division, was supported by the Tangalle Police Division and the Special Task Force (STF).
Authorities also seized six vehicles allegedly linked to the smuggling network.
Police Media Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler confirmed that the suspects are being interrogated and that efforts are underway to trace the missing boat.
