COLOMBO (News 1st): The multi-day vessel seized by the Sri Lanka Navy in the western seas has been found to be carrying over 350 kg of ICE and heroin, valued at approximately Rs. 5 billion.
Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) stated that the vessel was brought to Dikowita Fisheries Harbour, where the narcotics are currently being weighed and processed.
Once completed, the drugs will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
The Navy conducted the raid on Saturday (01) following a tip-off.
Six fishermen aboard the vessel at the time remain in custody as further investigations continue.
Officials emphasized that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb maritime drug trafficking in Sri Lankan waters.
