Heroin worth Rs. 3.5 BILLION seized from local fishing boat

COLOMBO (News 1st); The value of the consignment of heroin that was seized onboard a multiday fishing trawler is valued at over Rs. 3,500 Million, said the Sri Lanka Navy on Monday (17).

A special search operation carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Police and other intelligence agencies, has led to the interception of a local multiday fishing trawler carrying a large consignment of drugs and apprehension of 06 suspects, off the southern coast of the island on Sunday (16).

Navy Spokesperson Captain Gayan Wickramasuriya told News 1st that 175 kg of heroin was discovered from onboard the vessel.

The suspects and the consignment of drugs will be handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for onward investigation.
