COLOMBO (News 1st); 50,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik COVID vaccine will reach Sri Lanka on Thursday (27) night, said Lalith Weeratunga, the Principal Advisor to President.
In addition, 125,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccines from the second batch of Chinese vaccine doses will be administered to selected groups in the Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala Districts said Sri Lanka’s Army Commander General Shavendra Silva on Thursday (27).
Sri Lanka received the second batch of 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from the government of the People’s Republic of China as a gift to support the vaccination program of Sri Lanka.
SriLankan Airlines flight UL869 carrying 500,000 doses of Sinopharm Vaccines arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport at 12:05 on Wednesday (26) morning.
The remaining 375,000 doses will be used as the second jab for those who already received the 01st dose of the Chinese vaccine, he said adding that the second round of vaccination will commence on the 08th of June.
03 million doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine ordered by the Government of Sri Lanka will arrive in the country in the near future, he added.
