COLOMBO (News1st): The UN Core Group is set to table a resolution against Sri Lanka at the 46th UN human rights council sessions that entered its second day today.
In the UNHRC Resolution, the sponsors have expressed concerns about the mandatory cremation policy of COVID-19 deceased, which goes against the practices of minorities in the country.
The resolution has also stressed the importance of a comprehensive accountability process for all violations and abuses of human rights committed in Sri Lanka.
It has also urged the government to review the Prevention of Terrorism Act and to ensure that any law to combat terrorism complies with human rights obligations.
Further, the sponsors have encouraged the government to conduct elections for provincial councils and ensure their operations under the 13th amendment.
The discussion on the UN High Commissioner's report on Sri Lanka will be taken up on Thursday the 25th of February at 2.30pm Sri Lankan time.
