Severe lightning warning issued to six provinces

COLOMBO (News1st) : Severe lightning and heavy rains can be experienced across six provinces until 10:30 pm on Friday, the meteorological department said. The warning had been issued to the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-western and Uva provinces, and also the Ampara and Mannar districts. Meanwhile, the weather authority has predicted that these provinces can receive up to four inches of rainfall on Saturday. "Showers or thundershowers are likely over coastal areas of Western and Southern provinces during the morning too," the forecast read. The public has been urged to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity and localized strong winds during thundershowers.
