Email Print PDF

March 12, 2010: The cause of the rapidly spreading kidney disease in the country has not been identified as yet, says the Health Department.

“No country in the world has been able to identify the exact cause of the disease,” said Dr. Ajith Mendis, Director General of Health Services and noted that a panel of university experts had been appointed to look into the reasons behind contacting the disease.

He also said that the Medical Research Institute (MRI) was also conducting tests in that regard.

The Director General of health Services added that the disease was most prevalent in areas including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Girandurukotte and Ampara.
