July 31, 2010: United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Abdul Cader's Working Committee membership has been temporarily suspended, says the General Secretary of the party Tissa Attanayake.
Tissa Attanayake stated in a letter to MP Cader, that this decision was made after taking into consideration a complaint received by the working committee.
The letter goes on to say that charges have been levelled against Abdul Cader, with regard to voting in favour of the budget along with the government, in contravention of the unanimous decision taken by the party and the order given by the Chief Opposition Whip.
The letter forwarded by Tissa Attanayake adds that the working committee decided to appoint a disciplinary committee to look into the charges, and also to suspend Abdul Cader's membership in the working committee, until a final decision is arrived at by the disciplinary committee.
