July 31, 2010: The government and the National Eye Hospital are to establish an eye bank in the country, disclosed the Ministry of Health.
According to the Ministry, the eye bank equipped with new technology, is granted technical assistance by the Singapore Eye Bank.
Speaking to Newsfirst the director of the National Eye Hospital in Colombo, said that a programme would implemented to obtain the eyes of individuals killed by road accidents, with the permission of their families.
He noted that through this venture, eyes would be donated to other countries in the Asian region as well.
