The results of the DNA test conducted to ascertain the birth mother of Sheree Atcheson was released last night.
The test conducted by UK based Alpha Bio Lab confirms that the DNA of Sheree Atcheson and that of Dingiri Amma, who News1st traced in the initial search, are a 99.99% match.
Sheree was born on the 28th of February 1991, and 15 days later she was handed into the care of an Irish couple.
Since the data contained in her birth certificate proved to be false, News1st launched an investigation.
We received a major break in our search on October 17, and News1st dispatched two teams to Kurunegala and Gampaha in search of Sheree’s biological mother.
She believed that a photograph taken on the date of her adoption depicted her birth mother. Following an extensive search, we were able to track down someone who had startling resemblance to the woman in the photograph.
The details contained in Sheree’s fake birth certificate notes that her mother’s name is Dingiri Menika, the name of the individual we believed to be her mother was Dingiri Amma.
We initially passed several photographs of Dingiri Amma to Sheree, and upon further investigations she was able to relate to us some details that we had withheld from our initial news reports.
News1st’s management decided to conduct a DNA test to ascertain with certainty whether the individual we found was the mother of Sheree Atcheson.
Based on an agreement by both parties, a DNA sample was collected from Dingiri Amma through the Colombo North Teaching Hospital. The samples were then sent to the United Kingdom for testing.
Sheree, who has achieved many accolades throughout her career, agreed to foot the bill for the test.
She will arrive in the country in a couple of days to reunite with the mother she has not seen since she was fifteen days old.
