Kong: Skull Island, the latest in a series of films starring the legendary great ape, bested “Logan” to top the North American box office in its debut weekend, industry estimates showed Sunday.
Kong is a highly anticipated action/adventure flick that follows a diverse team of explorers who venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific – as beautiful as it is treacherous – unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong. It stars Tom Hiddleston who rose to fame in The Avengers as well as Oscar winner Brie Larson.
Kong topped the box office the past week with estimated earnings of $61 million, followed by the Hugh Jackman powered Logan which pulled in $37.9 million for a robust two-week total of $152.7 million.
